A breakthrough by the renowned breeder Mark Jury in New Zealand produced this wonderful magnolia. Hailed as a golden version of ‘Black Tulip’, it is the first yellow-flowered form to have this distinctive flower shape. Also, unlike many of the other yellow magnolias, it flowers on bare wood, so the display is not distracted by the emerging foliage. Its butterscotch yellow petals are substantial enough that they do not flop easily, and they keep their colour throughout the season.
- Garden care: Requires minimal pruning. Remove any broken, diseased or crossing branches in midsummer. Plant in a sheltered spot, adding plenty of ericaceous compost to the planting hole. Mulch in spring with manure and leafmould, especially on dry soils.
